Here are the current Top 5 MLB Prospects showcased in the 2024 Bowmen Baseball Set:
5.) Marcelo Mayer
MLB Pipeline’s top prospect from the 2021 Draft, Mayer, unexpectedly fell to the Red Sox at the No. 4 overall pick—their highest in 54 years—after the Pirates opted for Henry Davis to save money, and the Rangers and Tigers selected Jack Leiter and Jackson Jobe. Mayer signed for a franchise-record $6,664,000 and impressed in the lower levels of the Minors, advancing to Double-A by age 20 last year. However, his progress was hindered by a left shoulder impingement sustained from a fall while running the bases in early May. Prior to the injury, he was hitting .337/.414/.582, but his performance dropped to .190/.256/.366 afterward, leading to him being shut down in August.
4.) Walker Jenkins
Considered the best high school hitter to come out of North Carolina since Josh Hamilton, the No. 1 overall pick in 1999, Jenkins was one of five players in the 2023 Draft class with legitimate potential to go 1-1. The Twins, holding the No. 5 pick thanks to the first MLB Draft Lottery, were thrilled to find Jenkins still on the board. He signed for the full-slot bonus of $7.14 million and made an impressive debut, advancing to full-season ball and posting a combined OPS of .988 over 26 games.
3.) Dylan Crews
Crews was drafted number 2 overall in the 2023 MLB draft by the Washington Nationals. The 22-year-old didn’t stay in Single-A for too long as he only played in 14 games slashing an impressive .355/.423/.645 before being called up to Double-A. His bat isn’t the only thing he brings to the table, he has also stolen 12 bases in the 59 games he has played in Double-A.
2.) Junior Caminero
Caminero signed with Cleveland in July 2019 but didn’t make his professional debut until two years later in the Dominican Summer League due to the pandemic. In his first season, he impressed with a .295/.380/.534 slash line and nine homers over 43 games. Tampa Bay acquired him in November 2021 in a trade for Tobias Myers, aimed at clearing space on their 40-man roster. Caminero had a breakout season at age 19 in 2023, hitting 31 homers between High-A and Double-A, tying for sixth-most in the Minors (no other teenager hit more than 24). His .591 slugging percentage ranked fifth among MiLB full-season qualifiers, and his .324 average ranked 11th. The Rays promoted Caminero from Montgomery on Sept. 22, and he earned a spot on their postseason roster as a bench bat.
1.) Jackson Holliday
Holliday entered his senior year of high school as a potential late first-round pick after an inconsistent summer showcase circuit, but his performance surged in the spring, propelling him to the top of most Draft boards. As the son of seven-time All-Star Matt Holliday, Jackson made history as a prep player by receiving a record $8.19 million bonus from the Orioles after being selected No. 1 overall in the 2022 Draft. Despite the high expectations that come with being a top pick, Holliday exceeded the hype, advancing through four levels last season, finishing with a .941 OPS, and earning MLB Pipeline Prospect Hitter of the Year honors.
